Since we at Piga were using Fedora Core 4 we did not have the latest version of Gambas. We have discovered something in the newer versions that might allow us to make Inferno in Gambas!

See this image

Do not get your hopes up though.

When we are able to install the Gambas OpenGL component I will begin working on making a First Person Engine. Called PS Tech 1 (In homage of the id Engines). The First FPS we intend to make is REBIRTH. A Blood inspired game. We are not sure on what direction the game will go but we assure you one thing. A undead Caleb style Anti-Hero and a dark god to destroy. After Rebirth we will make Inferno a game who has been in mental creation since 2003. Sorry if you think we are doing to many projects and not working on FE but I am tired of FE for now. I will release SR 2.0 eventually. More updates on PS Tech 1 later.

Gambas 2.0's first release candidate as been finished hopefully Gambas 2.0 will be here soon. Then I will try and make Rebirth SR 1.0. It should contain one level with rudimentary architecture a few enemies and so forth. It will contain some one liners from the main character and the god will taunt you at the end and tell you that you should contribute. 8)

Rebirth Story Draft 1

It is 1850, you are a trapper and fur trader for the Hudson's Bay Company in the uncharted Boreal forests of Rupert's Land. You have been assigned to set up a new trading post for the HBC, but when you reach the chosen area you find that nobody lives there. Your first nations guides inform you that according to local legend, a dark demon lives in this forest, raising the dead and casting evil. Though the dark tales send a shiver down your spine, you decide that it is just a foolish savage myth and you will continue on without your guides.

During the first night, you hear strange chantings and smell bond fires and horrible smells. Shaken you load your sawed-off and head in the direction of the chanting. You find a clearing and see that it is a first nations burial ground. Watching in absolute horror, you see quite clearly that there is a giant vaguely humanoid beast casting spells in the centre of the cemetery. Then you see corpses rise from their graves. Terrified you run for your life and decide that you will leave tomorrow and hope that the undead will not find you.

As soon as dawn broke you immediately packed up what you needed to survive the journey back to civilization. Then prepared to leave, but suddenly you felt compelled to stay. You feel a great wickedness envelope you. Your eyes turn blood red, a hideous smile appears across your lips. "The power of the beast shall be mine" you utter and then break into a convulsive ghastly laugh. You drop your travel gear and and load your weapons and head in the direction of the ancient terror you had discovered.

When you reach the first nations burial ground you find that the beast and the undead that it had spawned where gone. However you are, or where a great huntsmen and you use your tracking skills for your evil quest for power. You follow the footprints of evil to a temple. The beasts emblem: a giant clawed hand, rests over the door. You blow the door off this place of wickedness with your sawed-off. Inside you see the beast sitting in a throne of human skulls drinking blood. "MU HA HA HA HA! A fresh victim for my torture!" the creature says in a voice worse to only to that of the devil himself.
"Your wrong, I have come to make you my victim! Your powers shall be mine demon!" You say your voice deep and hoarse due to the evil that had consumed you. However you did not get a chance to utter another word as in a flash of red you are turned into naught but ashes. The horrible demon of the forests lets out a cold shrill laugh of pleasure at your apparent demise.

Decades pass, your memory had long since been forgotten. Long ago had the demon moved away from this spot in his quest to find places to commit greater acts of evil. Your ashes had lied in the burial ground undisturbed for eons. However in the year 1929, the ashes formed together into a human form. You awake! A desire for blood and vengeance rises with in you, and thus your great quest begins! Twisted Evil

Rebirth is becoming less likely to be built anytime soon, I am still enthusiastic about building a 3D game but we are getting more involved in a fan project more directly related to Blood (the game we have mentioned that our idea of Rebirth is a homage too) under the name of the other group we have: the Blood Wiki (see the tread in "General Discussion"). This Blood project (I do not want to tell you much as the idea is purely conceptual and I won't even tell you what form it is) might just be the first things we test our new 3D technologies with. The engine is to be made by Piga Software, the under the name of the fan project and to be published by the Blood Wiki.

By the way I have looked over the Gambas 3D examples that came with Gambas 2 and they are different than I was hoping but betting in some ways as well. I have been experimenting with them, messing with interactivity but largely morphing models (rather poorly at this point sadly). As I have said elsewhere, my main intention or PS Tech 1 is that it will be Gambas Genie (once I have the all important new code done) with 3D OpenGL effects built on top of it. I don't expect to be done it anytime soon, but I am determined to get it done (a fools dream? Laughing ).

As for Rebirth, I am still keen on the basic idea. I would love to make a game centered around Canadian History and also uses Blood's Anti-Hero dynamic. Though Hamish has stated that he wants a plot element akin to Caleb's wish to avenge his fellow Chosen, I also think that this would add to the plot although requiring a rewrite from the current plot. I am still interested in making a Piga game with these hallmarks, Inferno: our main FPS design idea is of a different caliber.

I don't have GAMBAS 2 on my Fedora GNU/Linux 8 machine, so I don't hack at the OpenGL component very much. Still, I have some plans. All we need to do is make it so there are multiple 3D objects around that you can interact it, it might be on a 2D or a true 3D grid. I would like the latter but who knows. Smile Judging by the way the gears are drawn in the example, it should be easy to at least build a game engine with some 3D. First person, the one I REALLY want to do, might be more difficult but I still have some ideas. Malcolm Wilson Multimedia has been playing around with Blender a little bit, and has manipulated models from Quake III and OpenArena (mostly the clothing and skin textures). I am wanting to play around with Ioquake3, if I could find a nice enough level editor. Smile
