Brogo, Piga Software and Malcolm Wilson Multimedia, original developers of Donut Quest, now announce that we have begun work on version 1.5. The new version will have bug corrections, more advanced options, features to help people accessing it with WINE, and the license will be upgraded to GPL 3.0.

Hmm...
There seems to be a bug after I kill the big spider in level 4. When I skip the animation, it reverts back to level 1. (I assume that it's supposed to end the game and go back to the menu when you don't skip the animation...which it does.)

And it's too easy. Smile Maybe it'll be significantly harder when you get the cracks in the floor to be able to do something.

We will discuses your comments with the other developers and will look into the bug.

I tweaked Old Hairy to be harder (Quadrupled his health). Also there is a spree of ammo I added at the beginning of the level that is EASILY missed if you don't know whats coming (maybe I shouldn't be telling the public about this Laughing). If you don't, Old Hairy may do to you what Shelob did/tried to do to Frodo. We are also tweaking out timer bugs and may add multiple skill levels and some fancy particle effects. I also looked into the skip bug in the last cut-scene. Our bad, it goes to the menu now. Embarassed

Also, updated it to the GPL 3.0.

Building in Game Maker again has me saying this: it sucks! I hate all that drag-and-drop stuff! It makes me appreciate coding in GAMBAS all the more.

I added new four inter-level closing effects as well as the original. Also now the med-kits can not pile on top of another. 1.5 shall include a full change list. 8)

Now, I have some happy news for us and all the major Piga projects: as mentioned else where my main Fedora coding machine is back in action. Sadly this limits my time available for Donut Quest 1.5 as I did it because it was all my backup could really do. I would just like to say that the project will not be ignored, though it is likely that now its development will be restricted to group development sessions rather then me going to it and idly adding improvements. Post again with more news later.

Remember that 3D mode we brought up a while back. I said in the "Donut Quest" thread that we can not really do it as Malcolm Wilson Multimedia (who makes the graphics for Donut Quest and acts as a sound and image consultant on so many of our projects) does not have a 3D Modeler to his liking (he loves the Rhinoceros modeler for its simplicity and function, although we have had trouble getting it). He recently has been trying hard to get a copy of his dear modeler. I think I should let you know that he is a very stubborn person and as such he will get it eventually. Of course the 3D mode would not actually be one (we intend to still build it in Game Maker 5 for compatibility reasons) but would be sprites captured of actual 3D models (the way it was done in AoE). Keep you posted whether or not stubborn Malcolm gets his wish, 8)

Good news for DQ 1.5! We haven't been able to work on it for months since our main Microsoft Windows development machine has been down. However, soon we will FINALLY be getting the replacement part. When it is up, I will try and make 1.5 my top priority, and try and get it done by Christmas. Sound good? Smile

Also, as I was talking about 3D models in my last post... Malcolm still doesn't have Rhinoceros, but he has resigned himself to learning how to use Blender. The advantage of this is that A) it is free software, B) it runs on Fedora GNU/Linux, and C) it is powerful. One of his experiments so far has been to try and 3D model a version of our Piga Software logo. He still wants Rhino, but this is a good start, especially since in the long run, Blender is better. 8)

Still, waiting for the power supply. Rolling Eyes

Also, something Brogo that is gaming related. 8) There is a reference in the comic for last Halloween, where Michelle says "Its getting to the point where I'm no mechanic, I just mostly hurt people". This is based on a quip said by Caleb in the computer game Blood II: The Chosen, and if you'll notice, the grumpy Jack-O-Lantern in the corner is wearing Caleb's hat. Blood II, turned ten years old that day, and it is a game we at Piga and Brogo greatly enjoy, so we wanted to recognize the occasion. Twisted Evil

The power supply arrived in the mail today, and our old laptop is back in action! We have loaded up the 1.5 project file, played through it, and did some slight meddling. More on this later, hopefully it will be done by Christmas.

To continue talking about Blood/Blood II: The Chosen: It lives... again!

Update: as you can tell no such luck. We reinstalled Windows 98 SE on Flitwhick to "cheat death for another year" and it has been hectic recently. Sewer backups, frozen pipes, broken furnaces, dead driers... Rolling Eyes - January 4, 2009
